Roti canai, MAGGI mee and teh tarik...these dishes are synonymous with mamak stalls. Among these dishes, MAGGI noodle dishes are popular favourites among patrons. Whenever you visit a mamak stall, you will see rows and rows of MAGGI noodles in every flavour neatly stacked near the cooking area, with a wide variety of MAGGI mee choices on their menu. The most common preparation method for MAGGI mee at mamak is frying and cooking it in soup, namely MAGGI goreng and MAGGI sup. MAGGI goreng means fried MAGGI noodles, a popular instant noodle dish among the mamak (Indian-Muslim) sub-culture of Malaysia. The origins of the mamak sub-culture can be traced back to southern India, they are food stalls run by Indian-Muslims that serves an array of dishes with Indian-Muslim influences, such as briyani rice, naan, murtabak and many more. A hearty and filling dish, MAGGI mee is extremely popular in mamak food stalls, and it can be eaten at any time of the day — even as a late night snack! The preparation method is simple: pre-boiled MAGGI mee thrown in a wok and stir-fried alongside a mixture of vegetables, eggs, soy sauce, chilli and ketchup. The rest of the recipe is variable, some eateries include chicken, prawn, or tofu, but the possibilities are endless. Patrons can opt for an additional piece of juicy fried chicken for a hearty and filling meal too — if you don’t mind the calories! Before tucking into your MAGGI goreng, squeeze some lime juice onto your dish for a tangy sensation to pull the flavours together. Sour, spicy and savoury, it is a dish that can whet any appetite. You can also prepare this dish at home in just 15 minutes! All you need is MAGGI® 2-Minute Noodles Curry, some basic condiments, prawns, tofu, vegetables such as sawi, carrots and cabbage. Heat the wok with some corn oil and sauté the red onion and garlic. Boil some MAGGI mee on the side, add an egg and some fresh prawns to saute until cooked. After the noodles are boiled, toss them into the wok, together with some curry seasoning, soy sauce and mix well together — and your MAGGI mee dish is complete! Serve it with some calamansi lime for a tangy sensation; garnish it with some red chilli and spring onion for a final touch. Looking for more ideas to prepare MAGGI noodles with?
